Dear Potential Sponsor,

Monomoy life-saving surfboats are an important part of maritime heritage in the United States. Since the 1800s, the United States Life-Saving Service (later named United States Coast Guard) has used the 26-foot boats, crewed by eight oarsman and a coxswain, to row into the surf and rescue sailors is distress.

Since Sea Scouts (Scouts BSA) formation in 1912, whaleboat rowing has been an essential part of the program. Teenage boys and girls learn to command a crew and maneuver their boats using only oars. In competition, they compete in "flotilla drill", a beautifully coordinated demonstration of rowing technique, and pull boat races. Whaleboats are also used by the United States Coast Guard, the maritime academies, and whaleboat rowing associations on the west and east coasts. Rowing with a crew is one of the most skillful and rewarding things a young sailor can learn.

As our non-profit chartering organization, Liberty Maritime is raising money to commission a whaleboat for use by the Sea Scouts. The build will require the skills of a custom boat builder, and that along with construction of the artisan wooden oars, and a boat trailer, will bring the total cost to approximately $60,000. We're thrilled to announce that we have a sponsor commitment of $30,000 to-date.

Please consider making a donation to support our project and give teenagers of the next generation an opportunity to experience crew rowing and the absolute thrill and pride that comes with it.

Thank you!
